Berit Therese Nilsen

Berit Therese Nilsen er samfunnsgeograf og seniorforsker på Studio Apertura. Hun har jobbet i instituttsektoren i flere år, og har i tillegg bred erfaring fra UH-sektoren. Berit har i en årrekke undervist i en bistilling på IGS (NTNU), innenfor flere tema relevante for prosjektporteføljen, som kvalitativ metode, sosial ulikhet og fagfilosofi, i tillegg til å veilede masterstudenter.

I jobben ved Apertura har hun særlig arbeidet med søknader og i forskningsprosjekter knyttet til energi og det grønne skiftet. Dette inkluderer flere tverrfaglige EU-finansierte prosjekter i samarbeid med institusjoner i en rekke land, som blant annet DIALOGUES, og ENCHANT. Her er sammenligninger tvers av Europa i fokus og hvordan sosioøkonomiske forhold er sentrale, samt sammenligning av policy og intervensjoner/tiltak i ulike kontekster, og hvordan stedstilknytning og steders identitet påvirkes av og selv påvirker hvordan det grønne skiftet skjer.

Hvordan vi kan forstå motstand mot det grønne skiftet er tema i CURE , og hvilken rolle digitalisering spiller og om man kan snakke om «sufficiency» også i en digital sammenheng er konkrete forskningstema i prosjektet Limits to Digitalisation - L2D. Disse prosjektene er begge eksempler på hvordan forestillingene om grønn vekst og teknologioptimisme som lenge har preget forskning på energiomstillingen i dag utfordres av løsninger som heller ser til nedvekst, sufficiency og «postgrowth». Disse temaene er sentrale i det forskningsrådsfinansierte prosjektet «Post Consumption Citizenship» PostCC, hvor Berit er prosjektleder.

Bygninger/boliger, både første- og andre-hjem, medvirkning, inkludering, ekskludering, trans-og interdisiplinaritet er relevante tema for forskningen Berit er involvert i, blant annet i prosjektet Circular City, og som leder av forskningsprogrammet Fremtidens campus (2020-2024). Formidling er en sentral del av forskningen, og i GEMINI-senteret Centre for post-growth futures arrangerer hun jevnlige Webinar hvor akademia, aktivisme, politikk og kunst møtes.

Berit Therese Nilsen is a human geographer and senior researcher at Studio Apertura. She has worked in the institute sector for several years and also has extensive experience in the higher education sector. For many years, Berit has taught part-time at IGS (NTNU), covering several topics relevant to her project portfolio, such as qualitative methods, social inequality, and philosophy of science, in addition to supervising master's students.

In her work at Apertura, she has particularly focused on applications and research projects related to energy and the green transition. This includes several interdisciplinary EU-funded projects in collaboration with institutions in various countries, such as DIALOGUES, and ENCHANT. These projects focus on cross-European comparisons, examining how socio-economic factors are central, as well as comparisons of policies and interventions in different contexts, and how place attachment and place identity are influenced by and, in turn, influence the green transition.

Understanding resistance to the green transition is a theme in CURE and the role of digitalization and whether "sufficiency" can also be discussed in a digital context are specific research themes in the project Limits to Digitalisation - L2D. Both of these projects are examples of how ideas of green growth and technology optimism, which have long shaped research on energy transitions, are now being challenged by solutions that look more toward degrowth, sufficiency, and postgrowth. These topics are central in the Research Council-funded project Post Consumption Citizenship (PostCC), where Berit is the project leader.

Buildings/housing, both primary and secondary homes, participation, inclusion, exclusion, and trans- and interdisciplinarity are relevant topics in the research Berit is involved in, including in the Circular City project and as the leader of the research program The Campus of the future (2020-2024). Communication is a central part of her research, and at the GEMINI Center Centre for Post-Growth Futures, she regularly organizes Webinars where academia, activism, politics, and art meet.
